Chain Mail | June 2025
DGA Community

Hey DGA Fam, welcome to the June edition of Chain Mail. Let’s jump right into a community update from Georgia.

You might know Wes Johnson (Savannah, GA) who joined our Ambassador team in 2023. He works as a Graphic Designer in University Marketing and Communications for Georgia Southern University, where he has created a few opportunities to spread the disc golf love. Here’s a little more about what he’s been up to:

From Wes
“Working for a public state university has afforded me many amazing opportunities to share my love for disc golf with the surrounding community. When COVID hit, our recreation department was looking for outdoor activities that students could safely participate in and I suggested the idea of installing a disc golf course on campus. Although it took a while, we finally had our official ribbon cutting in November 2021 and I was asked to throw the inaugural first throw on the course!

Since then the opportunities to connect disc golf and students has flourished! I was asked to coach our newly formed disc golf club and the school helped us travel to play events. We have also implemented disc golf into our summer kids sports camps. We will typically set up baskets in the intramural fields next to the disc golf course and I will show the kids how to putt and how to throw forehand/backhand. We then split into groups to putt for a bit and then do a distance competition at the end, where I’ll let them all throw a few times and then put on a showcase throwing as far as I can with a variety of shots.

I’ve also been blessed to work with Project SEARCH by taking their student interns out for disc golf days at the end of each semester. “Project SEARCH is a groundbreaking program that challenges traditional expectations and empowers young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve competitive employment.” Their director has told me that the disc golf events have been extremely helpful with morale, as the end of the semester often causes a lot of stress for her students due to the interruption of their schedules and change in environments. It gives the students something positive to look forward to. “

This is inspiring stuff from Wes, and shows how one small opportunity can lead to more in the future. We’re excited to see what he’s doing as an ambassador for DGA and the larger sport of Disc Golf.

DGPT UPDATE

During Round 2 of the NWDGC Catrina Allen hit a super unlikely ace:

which happened to be her first ace on the Disc Golf Pro Tour! (Hard to believe, right?!)
Her season just keeps heating up, and the stats are there to show it:

  • (4) Top 10s at 2025 Elite Series/Majors
  • Currently #10 in DGPT Standings, up 2 spots from last month
  • 5’th place at NWDGC

Be sure to catch The Preserve this weekend on DGN, where Cat is a former champ (2023) and the rest of the team are sure to perform well. In 2024: Elie, Cat, Cole, Jake, and Sully all placed in the top 20.

Andrew Marwede is leading the charge for our MPO players, currently ranked 13th in the global DGPT standings with (3) top 10 finishes this year. To no one’s surprise, he is ranked number 1 in C1x putting at 93.97% for the season. He’s getting a lot of work done from C2 as well, ranked 11th with 31.5%. Friendly reminder to go practice your putting.

While he was enjoying the hometown support in Portland, Cole Redalen sat down with Birdie Productions to talk about his experience with DGA:

We’re about halfway through the 2025 DGPT Season, and happy to see how well the team is performing out on tour. We still have many of the fan favorite tour stops coming up, and a lot of courses that suit our players well, it should be an exciting second half of the season!
